Ser a pessoa autorizada a falar numa reunião ou contexto formal enquanto os outros ouvem.

Frequente em reuniões ou debates formais. 'Ter a palavra' indica permissão para falar enquanto os outros ouvem. Pode-se também 'dar a palavra' a outra pessoa. Não usado informalmente.
