論文是針對某個特定主題的長篇正式寫作，尤其是在大學研究所或博士學位時完成的。

常用於學術場合，多指碩士或博士的長篇論文。不要與 essay（短文）混淆。在美國，dissertation 通常是博士論文，thesis 是碩士論文。屬於正式、學術用語。
