중요한 일이 시작되기 전, 예를 들어 발사나 이벤트 시작 전까지 시간을 표시하기 위해 숫자를 거꾸로 세는 것.

'카운트다운'은 발사, 새해, 경기 등 특별한 순간에 주로 사용됩니다. 일반적인 대기 시간에는 쓰지 않습니다. 'The countdown begins'는 '카운트다운이 시작된다'는 뜻입니다.
