動いたり活動したりしていない状態。また、心が落ち着いている状態も指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

科学や医学、文学でよく使われる表現。「the object is at rest」は動いていないこと。「at rest」は比喩的に心が安らかな状態も表す。「resting」とは異なるので注意。
