Definition

식물이 시들거나, 매우 날카롭고 상대를 위축시키는 말이나 시선을 뜻한다.

'withering look', 'withering remark', 'withering criticism'처럼 사람을 위축시키는 표현에 자주 쓰인다. 불에 타거나 녹는 의미로는 쓰지 않는다.

The withering leaves fell from the tree.
