木材や金属の表面に塗って保護し、ツヤを出す透明な液体。また、欠点を隠したり見た目を良くする意味でも使われる。

主に家具や木工製品に使います。動詞としては「ニスを塗る」と言い、比喩的に欠点を隠す意味もあります。
