断る下げる

Definition

申し出や依頼を断ること、または音量や明るさなどを下げることを指します。

「turn down an invitation」は招待を丁寧に断る時に使います。また、音量や明るさなどを下げる意味でもよく使われます。よりフォーマルには「decline」を用います。「turn up」（上げる）とは逆の意味です。

Please turn down the music. It's too loud.

音楽を**下げて**ください。音が大きすぎます。

She turned down the job offer.

彼女はその仕事のオファーを**断りました**。
