같은 높이와 크기라도 서로 다른 소리를 구별하게 해 주는 고유한 음의 특성. 주로 목소리나 악기 소리를 설명할 때 쓴다.

주로 음악, 오디오 분야에서 사용되며 'timber'(목재)와 혼동하지 마세요. 'vocal timbre', 'rich timbre', 'change the timbre'와 같이 쓰임.
