Arar é virar e soltar a terra de um campo ou jardim, geralmente para prepará-la para o plantio de culturas.

Usado principalmente em contextos de agricultura ou jardinagem. Combinações comuns: 'tilling the land', 'tilling the soil'. Mais técnico/formal do que 'cavar'. Não usado para pequenos buracos.
