Se usa tanto en sentido literal (plantas, animales) como figurado (negocios, personas). De registro formal o semiformal; muy común 'thrive on' (disfrutar o mejorar ante algo) y 'thrive in' (sacar provecho de una situación). No es solo sobrevivir, implica hacerlo muy bien.
