誰かの完全な支配下にある人々を指す言葉で、もともとは奴隷という意味ですが、後には何かや誰かに強く影響されている人も指します。

実際の奴隷については古風または文学的な表現です。現代では「in the thralls of...」のように、感情や影響に強く支配されている場合によく使われます。日常会話では稀です。

In the past, some people lived as thralls with no freedom.
