知っていることについて、特に法廷で公式に証言すること。また、何かが存在する、または本当であると示すこともある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に法律用語として使われる（例：'testify in court'＝法廷で証言する）。書き言葉では「証拠となる」「証明する」という意味でも用いられる。'say'とは異なり、より正式で限定的な場面に使う言葉。
