"talk down" in Japanese
Definition
自分が相手より優れていると思わせるような態度で話すことや、相手を見下して話すこと。また、興奮している人を言葉で落ち着かせる意味でも使われます。

“talk down to someone” は見下すような話し方を示します。“talk someone down” は興奮している人を言葉で落ち着かせる場合に使います。
