Sentir pena por alguém e desejar ajudar ou ser bondoso porque essa pessoa está a sofrer ou numa situação difícil.

Usado quando se demonstra compaixão, normalmente após presenciar sofrimento. Costuma aparecer como 'take pity on (someone)'. Tem um tom mais formal ou literário; em conversa, 'feel sorry for' é mais habitual. Não é usado em contextos leves ou de brincadeira.
