日時計は、太陽の位置によって時刻を知るための装置です。平らな板と、その上に立つ棒（影棒）で構成されています。

「日時計」は歴史的・科学的な文脈や庭園、博物館などで使われます。現代の時刻計測にはほとんど使われません。「古代の」「庭の」「石の」といった語と一緒に使われることが多いです。
