"stop short of doing" in Japanese
Definition
何かをしようと決意するが、直前で思いとどまり結局しないこと。ほとんど実行しそうになる場面で使われる。

やや堅い表現で、正式な場や文章で使われることが多い。'stop doing'（やめる）とは違い、実行直前で思いとどまるニュアンスがある。
