'sterns' का उपयोग तब होता है जब कई नावों के पीछे के हिस्सों की बात हो रही हो। यह रोज़मर्रा की भाषा में दुर्लभ है, आमतौर पर तकनीकी या नौसैनिक संदर्भों में मिलता है। इसे 'stern' (कठोर या सख़्त) के अर्थ से न मिलाएँ।
