হঠাৎ কোনো শব্দ বা আচরণে অবাক বা ভয় পেয়ে যাওয়া।

"Startled" সাধারণত স্বল্প-মেয়াদী, হঠাৎ ভয় বা অবাক হওয়ার জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়, "terrified" বা "shocked" থেকে কম তীব্র। সামাজিক বা গল্পে প্রচলিত।

তীব্র শব্দটি শিশুটিকে **চমকে দিয়েছিল**।
She looked startled when I called her name.
আমি তার নাম ডাকলে সে **চমকে উঠেছিল**।
