Surpreender ou assustar alguém de repente, geralmente por um barulho ou movimento inesperado.

Geralmente usado na forma passiva ('be startled by') ou para causar ('startle someone'). Refere-se a um susto rápido, não a medo duradouro. Colocações: 'startle easily', 'startled expression'. Não usar para surpresas pequenas.
