にらみ合いは、対立する側がお互いに譲らず、進展がない状況を指します。物理的な対立や緊張状態も意味します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

政治や警察の緊張した場面、交渉などによく使われます。「armed standoff」は武力によるにらみ合いの意味です。「stand-offish」（よそよそしい）とは異なります。
