困難や不人気な状況でも誰かや何かを守ったり支えたりすること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

人や信念に対して使うことが多い。「stand up for yourself」「stand up for a friend」など。単なる「stand up」（立ち上がる）とは違うので注意。支援の意志をはっきり示す際に使う。
