Definition

何かや誰かが別の場所や役職に追いやられたり、移動させられたりすること。もともとは列車を別の線路に動かす意味で使われますが、人や物事に対しても使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

受け身で使われることが多く、誰かが重要でない役職や場所に追いやられたとき否定的なニュアンスを持ちます。「shunted aside」「shunted into」とよく使われます。
