Definition

언어에서 단어나 문장, 구의 의미를 연구하는 학문이다. 또한 단어 해석에 대한 논쟁을 가리킬 때도 쓴다.

주로 학문적, 언어학적, 철학적 맥락에서 사용된다. 일상에서는 'just semantics'처럼 사소한 말 다툼을 의미할 때도 쓴다. '통사론'(구조), '화용론'(맥락)과 혼동하지 말 것.

She is studying semantics at university.
