見通す見抜く

Definition

透明な物の向こう側を見ることや、人の言葉や行動の裏にある本当の意図を見抜くこと。

直訳は透明な物を通して見る意味だが、人や物事の裏側を見抜く比喩表現でもよく使われる。'see through someone'や'lie'との組み合わせが一般的。

She could see through his lie.

彼女は彼の嘘を**見抜く**ことができた。

I knew he was pretending to help. I could see through him from the start.

彼が助けるふりをしていると知っていた。私は最初から彼を**見抜いていた**。
