아주 밝고 방향을 자유롭게 돌릴 수 있는 조명으로, 보통 무언가를 찾거나 넓은 지역을 비추기 위해 밤에 사용됩니다.

보통 복수형으로 사용합니다. 군대, 경찰, 행사 등에서 자주 등장하며, 하늘을 가로지르는 강렬한 빛을 의미할 때도 있습니다. 때로는 아주 강한 관심이나 감시를 은유적으로 표현하기도 합니다.
