Definition

首根っことは、動物（特に猫や犬）の首の後ろ側のたるんだ皮膚部分で、そこを持って持ち上げたり押さえたりできる場所です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「by the scruff of the neck」などの表現でよく使われ、主に動物に対して使われます。人に対しては冗談や比喩で使われます。'scruffy'（だらしない）と混同しないこと。
