誰かをとても強く、突然驚かせて恐怖を感じさせること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にカジュアルな場面で使い、普通の「驚かせる」「怖がらせる」とは違い、極端にびっくりさせた時に使います。「You scared the life out of me!」は「本当に肝を冷やした！」という意味合いになります。
