何かを神聖なものとし、特別な目的のために分けること。宗教的な場面でよく使われ、何かをとても清らかにしたり尊いものにする意味もある。

主に宗教的・厳粛な場面で使われます。例えば「sanctify a place」「sanctify a ritual」など。比喩的に、何かを非常に大切にするときにも使われます。
