あるものを神聖なものとする、または特別なものとして捉えること。主に宗教的な場面で使われる。

宗教的な文や話でよく使われ、日常会話ではほとんど使いません。文字通りの使い方だけでなく、比喩的に大切さを強調する意味でも用いられます。
