Definition

特定の目的（試験や学位取得など）のために教科書や資料を読んで勉強すること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にイギリス英語で使われ、単に読むだけでなく、試験や学位取得のためにしっかり勉強する意味です。「read for an exam」や「read for law」のように続きます。アメリカ英語では「study for」が一般的です。

I have to read for my math exam tonight.
