Definition

目標や目的の達成に向けて少しずつ進歩すること。物事が着実に前進している状態を指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

抽象的な目標や長期的な計画に対して使うことが多い表現です。物理的な移動には使いません；その場合は「～に向かう」などを使います。よく「goal」「completion」「understanding」などと一緒に使います。
