다른 사람들과 함께 어떤 활동, 행사, 모임에 적극적으로 참여하는 것.

보통 '참가하다/참여하다' 다음에 '행사에', '모임에'와 같은 형태로 많이 쓴다. 단순히 '있는 것'이 아니라 적극적으로 관여하는 뜻이다. '참석하다', '가입하다'와 혼동하지 않도록 주의.
