주로 학문, 비즈니스, 창작 상황에서 사용됨. 'outlining ideas', 'outlining a plan' 등으로 자주 등장하며, 'summarizing'과 달리 구조를 잡는다는 뜻임. 글쓰기뿐 아니라 형태의 윤곽을 나타낼 때도 쓴다.
