Definition

当某人或某物“不合适”或“格格不入”时，表示其在环境中显得不适合或感到不舒服，或某物不在应该的位置。

既可用来指物品摆放错误（'椅子不合适地放着'），也常用来形容人在特定环境下感觉格格不入。多为口语用法。不要与 'out of order'（坏了、故障）混淆。

That chair looks out of place in this fancy room.
