"Occur" 比 "happen" 更正式，常見於書面語、新聞和學術語境，如 "The problem occurred at night." 它也常用於 "occur in nature" 和 "It occurred to me that..."。常見錯誤是說 "what was occurred"；應說 "what occurred"，更自然的說法是 "what happened"。
