"ম্যামথ" শব্দটি কেবল বিলুপ্ত বরফ যুগের এই প্রাণীকে বোঝায়, আধুনিক হাতিকে নয়। 'woolly mammoth', 'mammoth fossils' ইত্যাদি সংযোগে ব্যবহার হয়।
