実際には本当でないことを本物のようにふるまったり想像して遊ぶこと。特に子どもの遊びで使う表現。

主に子どものごっこ遊びや空想に使います。「make believe」そのものは大人の誠実でないふるまいにも使われます。名詞や動詞句としても使われる表現です。

The children love to make believe they are pirates.
