특정 분야에서 업적이나 영향력으로 널리 존경받는 사람을 가리킵니다. 빛을 내는 물체라는 의미도 있으나 주로 중요한 인물을 뜻합니다.

주로 공식적이고 격식 있는 표현에 쓰이며, 분야별 대표적 인물(최고 전문가, 지도자 등)을 말할 때 사용합니다. 'celebrities(연예인 등 유명인)'와는 뉘앙스가 다릅니다.
