Definition
ラグーン（潟）は、砂州や珊瑚礁などの自然の障壁によって大きな海から隔てられた浅い水域です。海岸沿いに多く、塩水や汽水が含まれています。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
「ラグーン」は主に科学的・環境分野で海岸の地形に用います。「coastal lagoons」「coral lagoons」などの表現があります。内陸の湖は通常「ラグーン」と呼びません。
