小さな島や群島を指す表現で、詩的または格式ばった文脈で使われることが多いです。一般的な「island」よりも文学的な響きがあります。

「isles」は「islands」より文学的または詩的で、地名や詩に用いられます。日常会話ではあまり使いません。

The British Isles are famous for their green landscapes.

ブリティッシュ**小島**は緑豊かな景色で有名です。

Many pirates hid treasure on remote isles.
