Definition
Ligar ou separar palavras com um hífen (-), geralmente ao escrever palavras compostas ou dividir uma palavra no final de uma linha.

Usa-se sobretudo na escrita formal ou académica. Frequente em adjetivos compostos ('well-known'), nas quebras de linha ou para clarificar. Não confundir com 'travessão' (pontuação mais longa).
