Definition

力を入れて何かを削り取ったり、穴を開けたりすること。日常会話では、価格を不当に高く請求された場合にも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

物理的に削り取る場合は「えぐった」、ぼったくりの場合は「ぼったくられた」を使う。“gouged out”は「えぐり取られた」と訳すと自然。「価格でぼったくられた」は「値段でぼったくられた」と言う。
