物事が炎に包まれて完全に焼けてしまうこと。また、計画や希望などが突然完全に失敗することも指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

直訳では物が燃えてなくなる場合、比喩的には「夢が燃え尽きる」「計画が台無しになる」時に使う。「燃え始める」とは違うので注意。
