Definition

複数の車線があり、信号や交差点のない、高速で走行できる広い道路です。都市間や都市内の主要な地域を結びます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にアメリカ英語で使われる言葉です。イギリス英語では'motorway'、'expressway'も類似語です。主要な高速道路のみを指し、一般道路には使いません。「on the freeway」「freeway entrance/exit」などの言い回しで使われます。
