Definition

用紙などの空欄に情報を書き込むこと。また、一時的に他の人の役割や仕事を代わって行うことも意味します。

「fill in the blank」「fill in your name」など指示でよく使われる。誰かの代役を務めるときはカジュアルな表現。'fill up'や'fill out'(米英)とは異なる。
