높은 곳이나 어떤 곳에서 아래로 떨어지거나, 무언가가 분리되어 밑으로 떨어지는 것을 뜻함.

일상적으로 사용하며, 사람이나 물건이 무언가에서 떨어질 때 주로 씀(‘자전거에서 떨어지다’, ‘책상이 떨어지다’). 양이 줄어드는 의미로는 비교적 드묾. 'fall down(넘어지다)'과 구분됨.
