अधिकतर औपचारिक या व्यावसायिक संदर्भों में इस्तेमाल होता है। 'upper echelons' (ऊँचे पद) और 'lower echelons' (निचले पद) जैसे वाक्यांश आम हैं। अक्सर इसे बहुवचन में ही प्रयोग करते हैं।
