Si algo va 'al garete', fracasa por completo, se desperdicia o se arruina.

Expresión informal, común al hablar de planes, dinero u oportunidades perdidas o fallidas. Similar a 'irse al traste' o 'irse por la borda.' No se usa para personas, solo para cosas o situaciones.
