কোনো দল বা অনুভূতি হঠাৎ এবং প্রচুর সংখ্যায় কোন একটি স্থানে বা কারো ওপর এসে পড়া বা চেপে বসা।

'descend upon' প্রায়ই গোষ্ঠী, অনুভূতি বা ঘটনা দ্রুত কোনো স্থানে বা ব্যক্তির ওপর আসা বোঝাতে ব্যবহার হয়। উভয় আক্ষরিক এবং রূপক অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়; উদাহরণ, 'ভয় চেপে বসলো'।
