En informática, un daemon es un proceso en segundo plano que funciona de manera silenciosa y realiza tareas específicas sin la interacción directa del usuario. Originalmente, la palabra también se refería a un espíritu o ser sobrenatural.

Se utiliza casi exclusivamente en computación e informática. No es lo mismo que 'demonio' (espíritu maligno) fuera de ese contexto. En inglés técnico, se pronuncia 'DEE-muhn'.
